Pre-Adventure Vacation Stretcher Packages—Santiago (March 25-28, 2020, March 26-28, 2020)

Three-night package—WAITLIST
Two-night package—

Santiago is the capital and largest city in Chile and sits in a valley on the canalized Mapocho River, surrounded by the snow-capped Andes and the Chilean Coast Range. The city was founded as Santiago del Nuevo Extremo, Santiago of the New Frontier, in 1541 by the Spanish conquistador Pedro de Valdivia. Prior to the Spanish settlers taking over and ruling the area, the original inhabitants were the Picunche Indians.

Santiago is a dynamic, sophisticated, energetic, and cosmopolitan city. It has strong European and North American influences in its architecture and culture, but recently, there has been a resurgence of mestizo artisanship, especially in music, theater, painting and literature. It is home to many events showcasing the best of Chilean culture and hosts international festivals filled with music, flavor, and color. It is a city that is filled with beauty, world-class museums, art galleries, handicraft markets, sidewalk eateries, restaurants, bars, cafés, and Latino nightlife in their many barrios!

Post-Adventure Vacation Stretcher Packages—Easter Island (April 3-7, 2020)

Four-night package—WAITLIST

Isla de Pascua, also known as Easter Island and to locals by its indigenous name—Rapa Nui—is an isolated volcanic island and Chilean territory in Polynesia. It’s famed for its archaeological sites, including the nearly 900 monumental statues called moai that were created by inhabitants during the 13th through 16th centuries. The moai are carved human figures with oversize heads, often resting on massive stone pedestals called ahus; Ahu Tongariki displays the largest group of upright moai.

Few areas in the world possess a more mystical pull than this tiny speck of land. Rapa Nui’s mysterious moai statues stand in silence but speak volumes about the achievements of their creators. The stone blocks, carved into head-and-torso figures, average 13 feet (4 meters) tall and 14 tons. The effort to construct these monuments and move them around the island must have been considerable—but no one knows exactly why the Rapa Nui people undertook such a task. Most scholars suspect that the moai were created to honor ancestors, chiefs, or other important personages. However, no written and little oral history exists on the island, so it’s impossible to be certain.
