Future newlyweds... and concernd others!! We are Laura and Karla from Irvine, CA and were married 08/08/08. I hope you do not mind if I am off topic - I am trying to get the word out about these free No on Prop 8 t-shirt irons that were made by a designer friend of ours who wants to share it with as many people as possible. If you do not know, Prop 8 is the ballot initiative in CA that will overturn the Supreme Courts ruling that made same sex marriage legal...  So it is a BIG deal!   So I have been posting the link to the website so people can download the iron on transfers... then you have to buy the transfer paper (we got it at target) and a plain white tee...  It would be great to see folks wearing the t-shirts on board... but also after the cruise of course. If there is someway we can get the word out ...  that would be great. Anyone is welcome to email me at laurakanter@mac.com

The instructions can be found as well as the iron-ons at:

Thanks!

Hey there - there will be at least two more that are not 'jocks" per say....I now work out and would consider it a compliment if I was called at jock!!  Hahahaha.  We are active outdoors - I work out with a personal trainer, Kathy has been one of the few tandem bicyclist captains - but for now - certainly not jocks.  Both of us would love to catch up with you - we were married in Quebec - March 12,2006 at the Ice Hotel - the first Lesbian couple to be married there!!  Until next time - or on the ship...

This is my second cruise (Rhonda and I took the same cruie last year). I can tell you that you probably will not get seasick. I get seasick and the only adverse effect I had the entire time was a bit of a headache the first couple of days. After that it went away. I had an awesome time and am looking forward to this trip.

Hi ya - I can confirm that Missy Higgins will be staying on for the whole cruise. She's an sensational Australian artist. There were actually a heap of us that wanted to come on this cruise just because Missy was playing but I'd just been on the March Caribbean cruise so couldn't make it and others had already planned to do the Rome to Barcelona cruise.

Hope you all enjoy your cruise and wish I could join you all.

My partner has said that the stuff they keep at the front desk on the Holland America ships works quite well for sea-sickness, and it takes effect quickly.

No, Heart and Melissa were on one of the Caribbean cruises. Paula Cole has been booked for this one for quite a while.

SOME entertainers remain on the ship. Others, like Whoopie Goldburg (when she did the Caribbean cruise in 06) only shows on the first night--before the ship actually departs, and they leave the ship before it sails.

thanks for the quick response.  and you're right, the fumes are pretty bad on those overnight boats.  i did try ear patches, the wrist band, garlic tablets, etc.  the only thing that truly worked was prescription medication for nausea.

on another note, weren't Heart and Melissa supposed to be on the riviera cruise?  i thought they were listed when i first looked into it...i could be mistaken.  how does that work?  are they on the ship the whole time?  or do they fly in to perform?  anyways, i look forward to chatting with all of you as the trip gets closer (i can't wait!)...felish

First of all, being an avid fisherperson, I can assure you that a fishing boat rocks and rolls WAY more than a big ship will. Plus, on a cruise, you don't combine the movement with that nauseating smell of diesel fumes--I do NOT suffer motion sickness but have been known to get a bit queasy from the smell of the fumes on a fishing trip. We've also done a few cruises before and have discovered that the bigger the ship, the less you feel the movement.

Second, we see a lot of people with those patch things behind their ear. I've heard that they work extremely well. Might want to talk to your Dr about it. Also, Bonine (according to my sister who suffers pretty severe motion sickness) is one of the most effective ways to combat the affliction. As with any motion sickness remedy, you have to begin taking them about 24 hours BEFORE you board the ship. Then there is that wrist band that uses accupressure to help curb the illness.

Hope you are able to join us!

hi all...my partner and i are thinking about joining you in the riviera for our belated 22nd anniversary, but i'm worried about motion sickness.  i've gone with her deep sea fishing and tried every remedy we could think of and i still end up "chumming" the whole way!  can anyone give us some advice?

My wife and I are more armchair jocks than much else these days although I'm still playing softball and we go to the gym fairly regularly. I'm a huge Billie Jean King fan and all 'round women's tennis fan. We watch women's sports on tv, catch our women Whitecaps home games when we can, play a bit of golf and, except for the Washington Redskins, pretty much boycott men's professional sports due to the wage/prize money disparity that still exists in most pro sports. We're going to try to take in a WNBA game this season in Seattle. Okay, I'm looking over this post, maybe we are jocks afterall???

Hey Ladies - My wife P.R and I are so looking forward to this trip! Let's see...are we jocks? Well...I think I was a jock when I was about 20 years old, but that was a while ago. I am very excited about seeing Billie Jean King, because tennis was my life during high school and college. My wife is the total lipsitck lesbian. She is so glam! We went on our first Olivia cruise in January and she wore a petite tiara the whole time! As you can see, we loved that cruise so much, we hopped right on another one. As for someone's question about whether this is a pick up scene - if you are worried about women trying to pick up on women in relationships - I would say it's totally not like that, based on our previous experience. We felt like couples were respected and celebrated. We have been together for 12 years, and we just got married last November (hmmm, lesbians married in Utah, how does that work?). It's cool to meet other couples and to see how long some have been together.

My partner Cindy and I are looking forward to this trip so much! We are definitely not jocks but we are most excited about being able to be out in public and just be ourselves with no worries about the people around us.  Also, we never get to socialize with any other same sex couples so we are looking forward to that too.  Can't wait to see you all there!

We are trying not to stress.... but instead to enjoy the process.  We've been planning for a while, so a lot of things have been done in advance which makes it much easier!

We can't wait to get on the ship and will celebrate your anniversary with a toast as well!

Congratulations on your Wedding/Honeymoon!!  What a way to celebrate.

Our ceremony was the end of Sept this last year, so this will be our anniversary...

Have fun planning and most of all...don't stress!!  Trust me it's not worth it...in the end the important thing is what the two of you are doing.

We'll see you on board and celebrate with a toast!
