We just found out a lot of good info on foreign transactions. We thought opening a HSBC account would save in fees but they still charge 3% on purchases.

After a lot of research this morning it turns out that Capital One does not charge a foreign transaction fee on purchases. There is a fee for cash advances as with all  banks. You DO need to inform them of your travel dates and where you are going in advance or they will cut the card off. 

This savings should pay for one day of drinking wine.
